Some people homeschool to narrow. Other’s homeschool to broaden.
I am in the camp of the latter category. I homeschooled to broaden our children ‘s perspective of the world and make them aware of the vast opportunities that are available to them.
Homeschooling to immerse children in the world vs homeschooling to create alternate realities
While I am well aware that children need to be protected from certain worldly influences. There are also educational opportunities that allow children to form into well rounded adults.

My homeschooling vision:
I homeschooled with the idea that I would be the filter through which our children would experience the world. Therefore the undesirable elements of the world would be filtered out while our children enjoyed a variety of experiences. For example, in place of history, our children participated in historical plays for several years. The March to Freedom Children’s Crusade was one such play. The majority of the cast members were high school students mixed in with a few middle and elementary schoolers. At the time our children were ages 5, 7, 9, and 10 years old. Three of our children participated in the play because our youngest was too young. I went to every rehearsal and play as well as accompanied out children in the dressing room. The older students complained about my presence in the dressing room. In fact, a sign was taped to the door of the dressing room which informed those not in the paly to stay out of the dressing room.
If they thought a sign would keep me away from my children, they were mistaking! The Lord gave me the idea to bring my curling iron and other hair styling utensils. I began styling the hair of some of the cast members and now everyone was happy to have me in the dressing room. This is an example of homeschooling to broaden.
The best part about it was that our children learned American history in an impactful way, far more interesting than reading about it in a book.
PART-TIME HOMESCHOOLER
All parents homeschool in my opinion. The real question is do you homeschool full time or part time?
If you have a child, and you help them with homework or science fair projects, are you now schooling at home? If you read to your child, are you knot doing some type of school work at home? This is homeschooling.
Can we stop tripping out over the word and idea of homeschooling?
All parents homeschool or home educate their children to some degree or another. Those of us who decided to forgo the route of traditional education for our children are known are homeschoolers but in actually all parents who care about the well being of their children homeschool!
