What Qualifies YOU to Question ME?

When I consider all of the mindless (and out right dumb) questions people have asked me over the decades, I am amazed. I have heard a myriad of questions and thoughts about why our children would be impaired, damaged, and hindered because of our decision to homeschool. But no one EVER asked me, “What is your background?” No one ever bothered to listen to my pedigree of educational powerhouses in my family dating back to my great grandparents who were teachers in every sense of the word. No one knows that I spent countless hours of my childhood reading medical periodicals and playing with my grandfather’s medical tools and my grandmother’s office equipment. Who asked me what type of literature I read as I spent countless hours in libraries of all types (teacher libraries, graduate student libraries, public libraries).

Please don’t think I feel like parents have to have such a background in order to be good at educating their children. I absolutely do not. For the record, I think that the most important aspect of anyone’s homeschool curriculum is a Holy Spirit filled mandate to educate and nurture one’s child, so they fulfill their God given destiny. This is also my definition of success.

I’d be remiss to add that many of the people who felt the need to question me, have some of the most maladjusted and disrespectful children I have ever met. I hate to sound like I am being judgmental, but it is sad that in certain social circles, it is acceptable to criticize and look down upon homeschoolers when we are the ones who are conscientiously trying to provide the best education possible for our children.

So for every person that have ever drilled me with mind numbing questions and passed judgement upon me and our children for embarking on such a unique path, know this: I actually spent hours and hours praying for direction, guidance, and wisdom as I homeschooled our children. Therefore, until you at least commit to saying one prayer for my children about their divine destiny and life’s path, close your pie hole and save us all the hot air that is proceeding from your uneducated and narrow mind! Oh, and before you begin another round of questions, seek information from the internet so YOU do not look so dumb!
